Using Problem–Opportunity Analysis against Processes to discern value-enhancing Business Requirements.
This is a practical approach that Business Analysis Practitioners can suggest to their Stakeholders, in order to help them ensure they have identified the right Business Requirements that will deliver specific measurable benefits that move Stakeholders towards meeting the goals of their business or operations domain.
By concentrating on a few key inputs – like what ARE the goals of the enterprise – and then noting which processes deliver objective outcomes that move the domain closer to its goals, the BA can use simple process models to guide stakeholders to identify process steps/tasks that need improvement.
How will putting effort into fixing this issue improve the valuable outcome of the process? Is it really worth it? Or is there something of greater impact that the project would be better off addressing?
When the analysis is over, there's a simple format for presenting the findings that get the needs fully conveyed - typically in under an hour of pictures-enabled STORY TELLING!
