Business Architecture is a growing discipline, and is also a hotly-debated discipline. It promise to keep businesses flexible is large and significant; it's scope is wide and that can present confusing overlaps with existing professional domains including Business Analysis.

Many of the Business Architecture artifacts and techniques can aid the Business Analysis practice, and help the Business Analyst in their practice and career. As our roles in business analysis continue to evolve, senior practitioners specifically will find the need to be familiar with the Business Architecture methods and models in their practice and for their career evolution. For some this will include adding Business Architecture competencies to a Business Analysis Specialist role and for others it will be a career move to Business Architecture. But what are we talking about?

Ultimately a useful Business Architecture defines the needs and the structure of a business or a business area. Then it can be leveraged to enable all the requirements to make the business come alive with integrated change.

We have to be able to clearly articulate what we strive to accomplish (the ends) and then define what we have to build, connect and do to accomplish it (the means). Defining and aligning the many moving parts is the key that characterizes this emerging practice.

Roger Burlton will discuss what is happening in this new and exciting field and along the way bust some misconceptions. He will discuss:

  • Business stakeholder analysis and strategic intent
  • Business process and business capabilities architectures working in concert
  • The business performance framework
  • Choosing your priorities
  • Scoping your work set.
