Work Planning in MS Project 2013

A critical factor for project success is having a well-developed project plan.  It provides a roadmap for project team members to follow, but also acts as the prime communications and control tool throughout the project.

Given that the tool-of-choice for most project managers is Microsoft Project, you are asked to ‘build a plan’ for your work activity on the project in this tool, as input into the overall project plan.  However,

• How do you define your approach?
• What are the major deliverables?
• How will we get to those deliverables and the deadline?
• Who’s on the team, and in what role?
• When will the team meet key milestones?

Let us show you how to “tell the story”!  The Toronto IIBA Chapter is hosting an all-day, exercise-based workshop on March 12, 2016, during which participants will learn how to:

• Break the work down into activities for which you can determine good timing estimates
• Use estimating methods for duration of tasks
• Organize tasks into phases, link tasks
• Identify different resource types
• Assign resources to tasks
• Create Gantt Chart and Timeline Views

Every participant will leave the session with greater comfort planning the business analysis approach for projects, less intimidated by MS Project as a tool, and confidently estimate what it will take to deliver the project!
